Press Reslease Newport Beach, CA, April 26, 2011
Karen Jones has recently been named the Director of Kure It Cancer Research, following the departure of Kellie Newcombe.to devote more time to her family business. Ms. Jones comes to Kure It after eight years with the Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center, and over fifteen years as the volunteer Board President/Executive Director of the Orange County Foundation for Oncology Children and Families. "I am very much looking forward to increasing both awareness and funding for research focusing on the newest and most innovative therapies in the treatment of kidney and other orphan cancers”, says Ms. Jones. "We believe that targeted therapies, such as those being tested in the treatment of kidney cancer, are the gateway to discovering therapies for many different types of cancer.”
Kure It is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by Barry Hoeven, who began Kure It after his own diagnosis of kidney cancer and the realization that there was little funding for research into new treatments for kidney and other orphan cancers. Mr. Hoeven is the founder and President of Westport Properties, Inc., a real estate development and management company that owns, through affiliated entities, or manages self-storage properties under the brand name US Storage Centers. There are approximately 40 self-storage and other commercial properties in six states, representing three million square feet.
