    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

San Diego, CA – January 16, 2013 – A-1 Self Storage, the premier provider of self storage in California, announced today their monetary donation to Saint Madeleine Sophie’s Center. SMSC has gone through quite a transition from the time it began in 1966 by serving preschoolers with disabilities to its current focus of adults with disabilities which began in 1972. Nestled tranquilly in the foothills of El Cajon, SMSC strives to be there to "help its students work through the daily challenges of finding fulfillment and happiness; and battle obstacles such as prejudice, discrimination, and society's misconceptions.” A leader in reaching out to the greater community SMSC helps to educate the public about the realities of developmental disabilities. SMSC understand that the developmentally disabled require special supports through all stages of life, from infant to senior citizen and they wish to provide the best environment to those within adulthood.

"Saint Madeleine Sophie’s was a place my siblings and I served at every summer while growing up.” said Brian Caster, President and CEO of A-1 Self Storage. "The kids we cared for were intelligent, witty and memorable! They made a lasting impact on our lives. We at A-1 Self Storage are proud supporters of SMSC.”

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A-1 Self Storage makes monetary donation to Cristo Rey Network’s "Expanding the Vision” Plan in Chicago, IL.

San Diego, CA – November 15, 2012 – A-1 Self Storage, the premier provider of self storage in California, announced today their monetary donation to the Cristo Rey Networks "Expanding the Vision” plan.  Cristo Rey Network has been changing the lives of urban students for the past 10 years by providing college prep education within an educational model that includes students participating in their own tuition costs. The CRN model is unique in that students participate in a student work program, gaining invaluable professional skills and building anticipation for their college experience. Remarkably, CRN educates 7,400 students nationally, supports 25 schools, located in 24 cities all of whom have 96% minority enrollment. 100% of CRN graduates are accepted into 2 or 4 year college programs. The "Expanding the Vision” plan’s goal is to open a new school by Fall 2013 and review 25 more potential sites for CRN schools to open in the near future.

"Education makes a difference and Cristo Rey is a wonderful example of this fact.” said Brian Caster, President and CEO of A-1 Self Storage. "Students with poor school instruction would typically drop out without hope of attending college but will blossom in the CRN model. It’s their approach; they hook the students by handing them adult responsibilities and asking them to rise to the challenge. We at A-1 Self Storage are proud to support Cristo Rey Networks.”

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

San Diego, CA– October 10, 2012– A-1 Self Storage, the premier provider of self storage in California, announced today their sponsorship of the "Once Upon A Time ROMP 2012” event presented by the Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego to be held on October 13, 2012 at the Rancho Valencia in Rancho Santa Fe, CA. The 3rd Annual "ROMP” is RMHCSD’s signature gala, raising more than $350,000.00 in donations that directly benefit displaced families of children receiving medical treatment in San Diego.

The Mission of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego is to "provide a "home away from home” for families with children being treated for serious, often life threatening conditions at local hospitals.” The RMHCSD makes practical care available for thousands of families every year by offering fresh meals, a comfortable bed, laundry, and kitchen facilities. The purpose is to surround the families with as much support as possible so they may focus on the most important factor – being the primary caregiver to their seriously ill or injured child.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA July, 2012 – On Thursday, July 19, 2012, Kure It, a non-profit dedicated to funding innovative cancer research, hosted their 4th Annual Networking Cruise & Poker Run.  The fundraiser followed the California Self Storage Association’s 8th Annual Self Storage Owners Summit at the Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach, CA.

The event began with an electric boat cruise around Newport Bay, with five stops to draw poker cards. Boats were sponsored by self storage owners and vendors, with each boat flying the flag of its sponsor. Once the boats returned from the cruise, guests enjoyed cocktails and food stations, networking with others in the industry, and an opportunity drawing. The boat sponsored by OpenTech Alliance ended the evening with the best poker hand, and its occupants went home with trophies, a prize package, and bragging rights.  Robert Chiti, President of OpenTech Alliance, stated "We have been a sponsor of the Kure It boat race for several years and we would not miss it for the world.  The Kure It organization is a true agent of change and we are very proud to be a supporter of their cause.  The boat race gives us all a chance to relax with some good friends and reflect on the importance of finding a cure for cancer.  A cure will be discovered and when it is, we will have people like the Kure It team to thank.”

The evening was a huge success, raising over $30,000 for groundbreaking research. Kure It Director Karen Jones recognized the support of the self storage industry as being key to Kure It’s success. "The Boat Cruise and Poker Run always leaves us in high spirits and excited for next year. We are truly honored to have the support and backing of so many in the industry. Each year, we continue to be impressed with the creative ideas that bring funds and awareness to our mission.”

Since 2007, Kure It has raised over $1,000,000 for cancer research. In 2012, Kure It awarded $100,000 to the Knight Cancer Institute at Oregon Health Sciences University, and an additional grant in the amount of $250,000 will be awarded through Kure It’s partnership with the American Association for Cancer Research. Through organizations like the California Self Storage Association, the storage industry has not only raised money for cancer research, but helped Kure It bring awareness to their mission and the overall state of cancer and cancer research.
